The best thing to do if you’re interested in porcelain veneers is to choose the best cosmetic dentist you can. It might cost a little bit more, but finding someone with experience is well worth it.

Now how does the procedure work? First, you come into the office, the doctor’s gonna look at your whole mouth, he’s gonna look at the individual teeth and your smile in different directions. He’s gonna go ahead and take a lot of digital photos in different directions, and then he’s gonna do an examination on your teeth and review your x rays and go ahead and especially look at your bite.

Once these are all taken care of, my philosophy is when you want to get started with veneers make sure the foundation of your mouth is good before we start. So basically the procedure starts with a full mouth evaluation, taking care of your bone structure, gum structure so they’re healthy, and then the veneer procedure will start when the cosmetic dentist has brought you in and talked to his master ceramist and we go from there. And we go ahead and design your whole smile.

Now some people can see the outcome of their smile of what they want on an impression and a study model, which resembles what we’re going to be doing next. So for those cases what we do is take impressions, I go ahead and prepare the teeth not on the individual, but on the study cast, and they go ahead and they wax it up, and then after it’s waxed up we show it to you so you see the before and after. That’s the best way, if you choose to do so, to see how the veneers will look as far as the shape goes.
