What Cosmetic Dental Procedures Can Dr. Mobasser Perform?

What procedures can our team perform to help you get that A-list smile? Dr. Anthony Mobasser specializes in all of the following (and more):

With more than 30 years experience in the dental industry, Dr. Mobasser is seasoned cosmetic dentist that can determine the best way to approach your smile’s imperfections and improve the overall appearance of your teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are one of the most common treatment options available from a cosmetic dentist.

Veneers are essentially a thin porcelain shell that is placed over the front surface of the tooth to improve its appearance.

Prior to placing a veneer, a small portion of the existing enamel of the tooth may be  contoured, shaping the tooth for proper veneer placement. Once it is placed, the veneer will look and function like a natural, perfect tooth.

Dr Anthony Mobasser specializes in ultra thin veneers in which 0.3 to 0.5 milimeter of the tooth is contoured, thereby hardly touching your tooth ( conserve your tooth structure as much as possible) and then substitute that with strong porcelain to change the shape or color. In most cases you will not even require temporaries!

Any time temporaries are required, this is due to the fact that more cutting and drilling has been done to your tooth!

Patients can receive one veneer, multiple veneers, or an entire set of veneers to have full mouth porcelain veneers. It depends on the unique needs of the patient and what they are looking to correct.

Porcelain veneers can resolve micro-fractured teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth, or teeth that are too short. After they are placed, they give the patient a perfect smile, free from imperfections.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mobasser has placed more than 10,000 porcelain veneers. His vast knowledge and experience with veneer design and placement put him at the forefront of the industry!

What Imperfections Can Veneers Resolve?

The following are signs that you may benefit by having veneers placed by a cosmetic dentist like Dr. Mobasser:

  • Chipped teeth and micro-cracks
  • Cracks in the teeth
  • Teeth that are too small
  • Large gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that are too short
  • Teeth that are too long
  • Worn out dentistry or old dentistry

Dental Reconstruction

Another common procedure that Dr. Mobasser performs as a cosmetic dentist is full mouth dental reconstruction or full mouth rehabilitation. Dental reconstruction seeks to improve the appearance of the teeth, while also assisting with their function and bite (occlusion).

Through a combination of veneers, veneers onlay or overlay, possible dental implants and crown placement, Dr. Mobasser can give you an entirely new smile that not only looks great, but one that feels great, too!

Dental reconstruction is a more extensive procedure than having porcelain veneers placed. While it is more serious, it produces more significant results. This is why it is reserved for cases that include many imperfections in need of correction such as eroded teeth (acid erosion causing loss of enamel and dentin exposure), worn out teeth due to grinding and clenching which can cause spacing between teeth, bite collapse, and loss of vertical dimension (in which the distance between your nose and chin gets smaller) causing more wear, holes, and fractures of your teeth, also for cases with TMJ pain, and TMD ( temporomandibular dysfunction). Full mouth dental reconstruction will give you a more balanced bite, by reconstructing the back teeth to support the newly fabricated front teeth.

If you are unsure about whether you need veneers or a full mouth dental reconstruction, a skilled, and experienced cosmetic dentist like Dr. Anthony Mobasser can assess your dental needs to determine the best course of action for your smile.

What Does Dental Reconstruction Improve?

Dental reconstruction can resolve a number of issues you may have with your teeth, including the following:

  • Teeth that are too short
  • Broken or missing teeth
  • Misaligned bite, collapsed bite
  • Under bite, open bite, over bite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Enamel loss, Errosion, Abfractions

Lumineers or No-Prep Veneers

Patients who don’t need full dental reconstruction or porcelain veneers may opt for a much simpler service:  Lumineers.

Also called “no-prep veneers,” lumineers feature more conservative procedures than porcelain veneer placement. This is because they don’t require any shaping or removal of the original tooth. In contrast, placing porcelain veneers involves having a small portion of the existing tooth removed so it will be substituted exactly to the thickness of removed tooth structure and making sure it is not bulky or over contoured.

Lumineers serve as a painless way to permanently alter the appearance of an imperfect tooth. These no-prep veneers are made from an ultra-thin layer of Emax porcelain. In fact, they can be as thin as a contact lens!

The thin, porcelain lumineers are placed over the teeth, correcting cracks, shape, chips, or stains.

Many patients choose lumineers over porcelain veneers because their dental imperfections are minor. Lumineers cost less than porcelain veneers because the cosmetic dentist is not preparing or contouring any tooth structure. However note that there is a minimum of thickness is added to your teeth, and some individuals may not like that!

With that being said, no-prep veneers aren’t for everyone. For example, they don’t correct more serious imperfections, such as severe stains or large gaps between the teeth, misalignments, and if you have a tight bite in which the thickness of porcelain can cause you discomfort then a dental veneer, or an ultra thin veneer is required to slightly shape the teeth to allow a thin porcelain be tolerated by the function of your teeth or your bite.

What Imperfections Can Lumineers Resolve?

Cosmetic Dentist in Los Angeles Celebrity Dentist Dr. Anthony MobasserNo-prep veneers are a great choice for patients who want a fast, easy resolution to minor issues with their smile. If you have any of the following, you may be a great candidate for lumineers:

  • Cracks and microfractures
  • Minor staining
  • Small chips
  • Inverted teeth
  • Open bite

If you are debating the choice between lumineers vs. porcelain veneers, Dr. Anthony Mobasser and his expert team members can help you to determine which procedure would work best for your smile!
