Before you Ask the Price: Why Full Mouth Evaluation & Examination is Necessary
I usually get questions like…”How much does it cost to get a Porcelain Veneer?” Or “How much does it cost to do a Smile Make-Over or Full Mouth Reconstruction?”
Although I want to answer them honestly, my experience has shown that it is impossible to quote the price before I have done my complete full mouth evaluation, to find out more about your existing oral health foundation, and after, what is it that you desire and want, so I can plan and deliver you the Best after We have gone over all your options, the time it takes and the cost of your dental treatment.
What is a complete Full Mouth Evaluation in Our office?
It consists of 5 specific diagnostic tools and records needed, so I can give you a proper consultation, regarding your oral health and cosmetic needs.
You will know Everything about your dental health needs AND cosmetic wants.
We need to do a comprehensive exam. This means I record each tooth in your mouth, and the existing restorations, taking measurements of the teeth and the surrounding gums. I make note of the color of your teeth, their relationship to each other and to your face, check any disease surfaces, test your teeth for any sensitivity, evaluate your existing fillings or veneers or crowns if they are fitting your teeth well, and much more…
- I need complete intraoral radiographs – 18 (x-rays), taken in my office with my trained assistants, as I am very particular about the angle and accuracy, so I can assess the bone, the root, the top part of the tooth, and the stability of the tooth for years to come.
- I need upper and lower impressions of your teeth so that my laboratory can fabricate the cast study models. This becomes an exact replica of your existing teeth for my evaluation of your bite, to see what is the best material of choice if any restoration is needed. The Bite Analysis dictates the choices of the material available so they can be discussed with you fully – all options and associated costs.
- I need to take your teeth photos and your smile photos from different angles to evaluate and perfect your smile.
- I need to do a bite analysis to determine what kind of restoration (composite or porcelain) best fits your needs, depending on your bite or occlusion and how long it may last you. I will be taking intricate measurements of teeth, and smile lines. You may have a high lip line in which you show your gums and many teeth, you might have a low lip line, in which no gums are visible, however, you show very little teeth upon smiling, and wanting to show a more youthful smile, possibly longer front teeth the bite must be evaluated, prior to fabrication, so your new dental restorations last a long time and are not compromised by chipped edges.
With all the above, I study your mouth and come up with an “Ideal” Treatment Plan, plus different options that might be available to you, including all the COSTS involved to achieve your ” Perfect Smile“. You will also be informed regarding the pros and cons, the risks and benefits of each procedure, and the time involved to complete the procedures you want in question.
Our primary goal is to keep your teeth for the rest of your life and give you a service that lasts a long time, feels good and keeps you looking your BEST.
So now, after the complete evaluation you have met the Doctor, you know all about your teeth, gums, oral health condition, and Cosmetic Dentistry options, plus you know the solutions and the cost involved and other details you were wondering about.
I believe this gives you better clarity and perspective rather than the office just quoting you a price when the doctor does not know anything about your bite, the color, and fillings you have in your existing teeth and the health of teeth involved!
