A bridge connects two things, often over some kind of gap. When you drive, a bridge connects two landmasses over a body of water. In dentistry, a dental bridge can do the same thing. It can be the perfect replacement for your missing teeth. In a very real way, it reconnects your teeth so that there’s no gap or missing space. That being said, there are many different kinds of dental bridges available. Dr. Mobasser will walk you through the options should a bridge be the right plan for you. In this blog, we’ll go over some of the most common kinds of bridges for your teeth, as well as who they work best with.
Cosmetic Dental Bridges in Los Angeles with Dr. Anthony Mobasser
We offer this blog just so that you know a bit more about a dental bridge before you come in. That being said, don’t feel like you have to study it or something. We take great pride in helping patients to figure out the right plan for them and their needs. That means that when you come in here, we sit down with you to figure out the exact perfect way forward for your treatment. Dr. Mobasser lays out your options in clear, easy-to-understand detail so that you’re informed and ultimately empowered. The better informed a patient is, we’ve found, the better decisions they’re able to make for their own health. That’s true not just on the day they’re diagnosed, but going forward into the future as well.
What Is A Conventional Dental Bridge?
These dental bridges earn their name: these are the bridges that most people get. When people think of a dental bridge and an image comes to mind, it is typically these conventional bridges. They’re often referred to as the “gold standard” for a dental bridge, and they certainly are, at least when they’re done by Dr. Mobasser they are. That being said, it is important to note that they require preparation on the anchoring teeth. With that, however, they cover fully the anchor teeth to hold the missing teeth in place. Fabricated with porcelain fused to either gold or metal, they provided predictable, steady results.
What Is A Cantilever Bridge?
You may have read the above paragraph and thought: “wait a minute. What if I don’t have any teeth adjacent to the tooth/teeth that are missing?” That’s where these bridges come in. These are the kinds of bridges that should only be placed by an expert like Dr. Mobasser, as their use should be judicious at most. Without healthy abutment teeth holding the missing teeth, these bridges will be ineffective at best. However, when used properly, these bridges can absolutely help someone who’s missing a tooth or several teeth to have the smile they’ve always wanted.
What Is A Maryland Dental Bridge?
A more conservative choice than a conventional dental bridge, they’re focused primarily on conserving tooth structure. The upsides to these kinds of bridges are that they require minuscule to no tooth structure removal from the anchor teeth. Perhaps better still, these bridges almost never cause one any discomfort or increased sensitivity. However, the downside to these bridges is that they can be dislodged or even come out. On top of that, these are not a permanent solution. Indeed, they typically last between three to five years. Should you want them for longer than that, Dr. Mobasser can help. He has made Maryland bridges that last for more than fifteen years, to his credit.
An even more conservative bridge than the last, these are the right bridges for people who have adjacent teeth with large fillings. Alternately, Dr. Mobasser typically prescribes these bridges for patients who don’t want any (or the smallest amount) of tooth structure to be removed, period. These bridges can be very effective for such patients. However, they do require a bit of testing ahead of time. For example, Dr. Mobasser or one of his associates has to evaluate a patient’s clenching and grinding to make sure that they’re the right candidate for this bridge.
One other bridge that we help people with here is called the “ceramic” or “all-porcelain” bridge. These are very temporary dental bridges. They’re utilized mainly for restoring missing teeth for a brief period of time. In fact, it’s often used for only one or two teeth. This is a very “stop-gap” solution that can absolutely do the job for a brief period of time.
Of course, cosmetic dental bridges are just one of the services that we provide here at the Celebrity Dentist.
